Retaining Wall and Generator Pad Done Right

Some jobs look simple on the surface but require real precision to get right. A generator pad is a perfect example. If the base isn't level, properly contained, and built to handle the weight and vibration of a standby generator, you're going to have problems down the road. That's exactly the kind of thing we think about before we ever break ground.

Here's what we were working with - a side yard that needed a dedicated, level surface for a generator, right next to the gas line hookups. The goal was a pad that would hold up long-term without shifting, settling, or becoming an eyesore next to the house. No shortcuts.

We built out a block retaining wall to contain the pad, topped it with cap blocks for a clean finished edge, and filled the interior with gravel for proper drainage underneath the unit. The surrounding grade was pulled away cleanly so the structure sits solid and flush. Prep work like this is what separates a pad that lasts from one that starts causing headaches within a year or two.
